RE: Sig Kougar Build

It seems like Tower's almost not carrying anything but what they distribute. I was looking for a 4*60 or 120 arf and they didn't have anything by Sig.

Weak.

RE: Sig Kougar Build

Nice to see my thread living on...

I was just flying my own kougar last weekend in fact.

Probably take it out again this weekend.

RE: Sig Kougar Build

I had originally powered my Kougar with a Magnum 46 XLS but unfortunately right out of the box this thing had the rear crank bearing rusting. While I work on getting that bearing out I took my trusty...

RE: Sig Kougar Build

Flew mine again today, went to change to an 11x6 but it wouldn't fit under my spinner (I hate that). Looking at the prop I had on there though it is actually a 10x7 and not a 10x6.

RE: Sig Kougar Build

Maybe I'm behind the times but a 12x6 on a 46 sounds like a lot to me. I think the popular prop on that engine is an 11x6. I know I used to use 11x7s and 12x6s on my old OS 61 SF engines...My Kougar...

RE: Sig Kougar Build

No exhaust deflector here, I'll try the props but my expectations are not high. The engine is performing well, it is very reliable, easy to start and produces good power it's just not a superstar in...

RE: Sig Kougar Build

Believe it or not I'm running a 10x6 - the engine is new and still breaking in though I think it is about done. I was planning on moving to an 11x6 or 7 in the next week or so. I also have some...

RE: Sig Kougar Build

I've been looking at my engine possibilities to replace my Magnum 46 XLS, I have a GMS 47 that is supposed to be pretty hot but I've never got a good run out of it. I'm going to try it with some...

RE: Sig Kougar Build

I'm surprised by the life of this thread, I guess I shouldn't be considering its subject though.

Regardless, I've been flying the heck out of my Kougar. It's got probably close to 20 flights on...

RE: Sig Kougar Build

I don't have the budget for a Jett or a Nelson - simply put.

I'm not looking for a speed demon and frankly I should leave this one be, but he gave me the engine so what the heck.

RE: Sig Kougar Build

Went out again yesterday and my buddy happened to have the engine on him. It's an older OS Max 61 V. Very heavy engine...I've got to do some research on it. He said I could have it if I put it in...

RE: Sig Kougar Build

I put another two flights on mine today, my Magnum 46XLS just seems a bit light on the power for my tastes though. It seems to be getting more powerful slowly but it was hard to tell in the wind...

RE: Sig Kougar Build

Yeah, I don't see a lot of need to make them bigger. Plus by making them bigger the wing leading edge may actually become weaker because of the larger holes required to hold them.

RE: Sig Kougar Build

It was very good - the last flight I was out there by myself pretty much and I just started shooting touch and goes wishing for a slight headwind to help me slow down just a bit more...

RE: Sig Kougar Build

Woooohoooo! That was fun - 3 very good flights.

I spent about 10 minutes tuning up the engine and then we headed out. Took a little aileron and a bit of elevator to trim her out but once trim...

RE: Sig Kougar Build

I've got the glue on the canopy drying now so hopefully nothing goes screwy there...

Otherwise - she's ready for tomorrow morning bright and early.

Ran the engine for a few minutes but I...

RE: Sig Kougar Build

Almost done....just have to finish the aileron linkage, secure the rx/batt, finish painting the turtle deck and a little trim, glue on the canopy and deck and then balance. The engine is new so I...

RE: Sig Kougar Build

I have found that the heat gun is a very helpful tool. I'm using Sig Aerocote for the silver and Monocote for the Blue and Red.

The Aerocote appears to have much more shrink ability than the...

I've never been very good at covering but I'm trying to get better. It takes time - something I never seem to have and something I'm rarely willing to spend. Still, I'm trying...

RE: Sig Kougar Build

Oops - I wish Sig's shipping wasn't so much...I just ruined my canopy (because I'm a dope).

My primer was not dope compatible (I swear I've used the two together before and they worked well) so...
