RE: Sig Kougar Build

Thanks. I read the entire thread several times and believe the F-20 is a very close to a slightly larger Kougar copy.

Kougar
span 50"
weight 5 1/2 - 6 lb.
wing area 540 sq. in.
wing...

RE: Sig Kougar Build

Tojeiro 50s by Protech is about the same dimensions and size and shape as a Kougar. The gear is different and it is a tail dragger.

RE: Sig Kougar Build

Saw an airplane that looked and flew like a Kougar at CCRC in High Point NC yesterday. The airplane had been enlarged from a Kobra to 66" wingspan. The weight, wing area and engine size were more...

RE: Sig Kougar Build

I also use the string method but mark the top of the canopy since I balance in a cradle.

The Kougar flies well with a forward CG and slight up reflex in the ailerons and first flights are much...

RE: Sig Kougar Build

All my manuals state "1/2 back from the leading edge at the wing tip.

Bet it will not fly long at 8" from the trailing edge which looks to be about 1" too far back.

RE: Sig Kougar Build

Someday when all my Kougars are beyond repair an ARF substitute will be necessary. Has anyone found an ARF that flies like the Kougar?

RE: Sig Kougar Build

For what it is worth:
With standard gear a 11-diameter prop clips the grass on take off on landing. An 11” X 6 prop idols better on an OS 50 but I prefer to use a 10” X 8 prop even though...

RE: Sig Kougar Build

Hogflier,

Thanks for the technique for checking CG.

Used the CG checking technique you suggested. Rolled inverted on a 45-degree upline and the airplane headed seriously for the ground. ...

RE: Sig Kougar Build

I squeezed a second aileron servo in the wing and set up flaperons. Seems like a different airplane now that the aileron reflex can be adjusted at the radio. Servo weight was not noticeable, turns...

RE: Sig Kougar Build

Yes, the Bob Cat has been difficult to master. Next trip to the field will be experimenting with the air brake switch. The engine out landings and most other landings have been good but two...

RE: Sig Kougar Build

Anyone know how effective flaps are on a Kougar? Anyone used air brakes?

RE: Sig Kougar Build

Over a period of two years:
One cleared corn field dead stick, two bang, bang landings that touched wing tip after dodging tree, and one real crash. Wing blocks stayed with the wing, nylon bolts...

RE: Sig Kougar Build

In each case the wing mounting blocks broke away from the fuselage and the 1/4-20 nylon bolts were not damaged. Twice the glue was epoxy and twice the glue was Gorilla glue. Broke one airplane...

RE: Sig Kougar Build

Three Kougars have ripped the wing blocks from the fuselage without breaking the wing bolts. Anyone have a good solution so the wing bolts break before shattering the fuselage?

RE: Sig Kougar Build

Base on the several fuselages that I have repaired the formers need triangle stock to secure them to the fuselage sides.

RE: Sig Kougar Build

I think you will find the .61 to be about 5 to 6 oz heavier than most .45's and will usually require about 2 oz in the tail.

So it depends upon what you want to accomplish. Heck I have a Kougar...

RE: Sig Kougar Build

Have a Kougar with an upright engine and have now moved it to 9:00 o'clock. Wanted the carb CL closer to the tank CL. With a cowl the engine position would be better at the position on the plans. ...

RE: Sig Kougar Build

Ground clearance is tight but I have occasionally used 11" props.

Wing blocks will often break away from the fuselage rather than shearing the nylon bolts on a very bad landing. Formers will...

RE: Sig Kougar Build

Hope the plans are helpful. I think the 1/4" dowels are stronger than the former. All my crashes (mishaps) have messed up the former. The former could be doubled with thin lite ply.

RE: Sig Kougar Build

If the CG is anywhere close the roll rate will be plenty fast on low rates.

I find it to be a good idea to reflex the ailerons for the initial test flights as per the instructions. Also 1/4"...
