Been a long time since i posted to this thread! I have maybe 300+ flights on mine (now in storage since 2012 or so) and never had any t/o issues, it is/was one of my best flying jets. No memories of...

RE: What do you think about JETLEGEND L39?

Mike -

You are welcome to use any of my posts or pictures...fuse reinforcement, gear mods, fuel tank mods, etc..

Couple comments on the last 20 flights or so...the tanks can split under...

RE: What do you think about JETLEGEND L39?

I would, Hector, but two problems... no video camera ;), and mine is the stock Warsaw Pact camo scheme!

RE: What do you think about JETLEGEND L39?

You're welcome - now get into the shop and build it! ;)

We now have 3 flying locally, other than some minor issues they are holding up great after a year of flying. Based on our experience over...

RE: What do you think about JETLEGEND L39?

Yes - I posted some info here a few pages ago. The stock main springs are OK but could stand stiffening; the nose gear spring is way too soft, IMHO.

RE: What do you think about JETLEGEND L39?

No specs, sorry...I took my old springs to a good hardware store and picked through the springs on hand until I found some that worked. You might also consider adding some smaller 'helper' springs...

RE: What do you think about JETLEGEND L39?

No problem, glad we could help.

The L39 cockpits I've seen (including mine) just lay on top of the fuselage sides, the canopy retains it in place. Unless you are going to pull big negative G's,...

RE: What do you think about JETLEGEND L39?

You might want to review back a few pages, I posted pics and info about the need to dis-assemble and deburr/lube up the gear, especially the brass bushngs in the main gear side frames.

Congrats...

Parker brand silicone O-ring lube... Dreamworks and BVM sell it.

RE: What do you think about JETLEGEND L39?

I've been told that Cermark is a Jet Legend dealer, and sells and carries spare parts for the L39.

Re speed brake - I've found it is not needed, the L39 decelerates very quickly when you pull...

RE: What do you think about JETLEGEND L39?

I'm glad to see Andy posted the details of the McMaster-supplied AL rod. Now that Andy's done the legwork, I will finish the repairs to my L39 (from my NiMH BBQ "event"), reinforce the tubes, and get...

RE: What do you think about JETLEGEND L39?

I use two methods, one is to make a mold of the nose from plaster and cast some lead (old melted tire balance weights)... but being lazy this time (and not being sure of the final amount until after...

RE: What do you think about JETLEGEND L39?

I did not add any flap/elevator compensation for first flights, if the flaps are deployed at a slow enough speed it does not appear to need any. If anything, a very slight amount (2-3%) of down...

RE: What do you think about JETLEGEND L39?

Interesting...check your trailing links.

I dropped mine in from a foot or so on asphalt, but not nearly enough to break the mounts...so I would be surprised if your links were not twisted as...

RE: What do you think about JETLEGEND L39?

Andreas - what broke on your gear? I had a hard(ish) landing and twisted the trailing links on the mains when they bottomed out (the springs are too soft)...if that's what you did, they can be...

RE: What do you think about JETLEGEND L39?

Don't trust the plans, there are a number of inaccuracies. I never really had to use mine.

I cut the slots in the flaps as marked but may have had to move them forward or back a bit - do a...

RE: What do you think about JETLEGEND L39?

I think I get it now....

If you look closely at the lower wing and flap skins, you'll see some inscribed lines that mark where the hinge cutouts should be made. There are wood blocks underneath....

RE: What do you think about JETLEGEND L39?

It sounds like your aluminum drive rod is not perfectly centered and/or aligned with the rotation axis of the aileron. Mine has very little slop, and the drive rod does not move around as it rotates....

RE: What do you think about JETLEGEND L39?

Jeff -

I agree 100% with your assesment, and I suspect that there was damage (nicks/cuts in the tube) or possibly a manufacturing defect in the bonding of the tubes. I am not an ME, but I have...

RE: What do you think about JETLEGEND L39?

I am wondering if the aluminum clamps may have cut into the CF wing tubes over time and essentially created a stress riser. I am on business travel now but plan to take a close look at mine on return...

RE: What do you think about JETLEGEND L39?

RE: What do you think about JETLEGEND L39?

I used four 1/2" x 1/4" pieces of black adhesive Velcro. Play around with the location of the velcro tabs, on mine you can't see any gaps between the glare panel and the fuse and it makes getting...

RE: What do you think about JETLEGEND L39?

I did not need to use the shims, my gear fit fine without them - no bow-legs at all. In fact I ended up modifying the metal shim stock to use as 'straps' to mount the main strut gear doors to the...

RE: What do you think about JETLEGEND L39?

From post #535 on page 22 or 23...

"I measured the volume of the original tanks, they are 57 oz. each."

The two tanks provided in the kit are each 57 ounces/114 oz total, or 3.37 liters...

RE: What do you think about JETLEGEND L39?

I believe it is the same as the wing bolts - 6-32 thread by 5/8" or 3/4" long.
