Default Anybody Make the X-Treme Jets ARF PLUS F-5/T-38/F-20

'Looking for a smaller light jet that would be easy to transport and maybe easy to fly? Any experience with this model?

Yes I have 100s of flights on my T38. Getting ready to go through it and change airlines and fuel tank lines to get it ready for a few more 100 flights

If you choose the T38 I will be happy to help with my experiences cg etc...

Great. I will try to accumulate (extract) as much info as I can from you if possible. I would like to have it all figured out before I start.

For one thing I see no indication of how much the model weighs when completed. Various sites say you need a P120 or larger engine but the model has only a 59" wingspan. So it must be heavy. It would seem as though a P100 would do.

Here is what the current instructions show as the CG. What is your experience. I like models to fly inverted with just a touch of elevator push.

What are your settings for the flaps?

Is the engine really mounted without a bypass?
The fuel is all in front of the CG. How does this effect flight?

The control throws are fine on aileron and elevator. My CG is 108 from the wing break but remember I have the T38 so may be slightly different for you. Flaps are 15 degrees for takeoff and 40 for landing. Plane is very long and fuse acts as lifting surface almost 40% on real thing.

I have 120 class engine and feel it is perfect. It may fly on 100 but it would always be at full throttle. Fuel did not effect planes flying. I did install a bypass in mine!

What is the quality of the airframe. I was told that X-Treme was a lower grade Skymaster. What is not up to par? Landing gear, fit and finish, paint job poor or flaking off, excessive glue causing higher weight? Is there a way you can now think of to decrease weight? Do areas need to be strengthened?

Thanks

I have a NIB F5 that I bought from Global Jet Club if interested.. Gear / airline installed pro version custom desert tan paint scheme VMFT-401 aggressor scheme. I also have spare Tam Pipe to go with it. It's still in box, unwrapped except for initial inspection then put away as retirement project. I also have a box full of servos that were initially purchased to go with it.

The quality of kit is good. No issues with mine and as I mentioned has 200 plus flights. I have only done maintenance. Now at 10 years old I am changing out airlines fuel lines for the first time. I do not see any way to lighten aircraft. I believe the 120 class to be the perfect engine but you may try 100 class. I would make sure you have plenty of runway if you go that way.

This was maybe first or one of the first T38's done. Ordered as all white so I could have different scheme. Don Yockey did all the great work!!! Not stock paint although they have a close different base scheme on web

Looks nice, Thanks!

A friend said he flew one and found there was not enough Aileron for a fast enough roll. Did you find this to be an issue?

It does rolls fine. I don't know what he is comparing it to? The one thing I did do was add a gyro to the nose gear steering. It helps in braking as well as take off roll

The truth is that the F-5 is not an airplane that is commonly found in the rc flight fields, with how beautiful it is, I love it with the Swiss or Camo desert scheme preferably. Feibao, as I suppose they know, also has the same size as an airplane but apparently their kits are very heavy and people always opt for Skymaster / Xtreme better.

By the way and the front leg in this kit has the same position or height at takeoff as when landing, is not adjustable as in other kits from other manufacturers?

I would like to do some day with some, but yes, I would like the advances we have to equip it with an electric train and leave it as light as possible, because our track is only 160 meters long!

I think Airworld has a large kit too but transport is a problem due to the length

I've been waiting for an wishing for a twin T-38. I would even settle for a twin F5 with a T-38 option!

Do you perform aerobatics with this plane? I like to do slow rolls, knife edge, inverted flight, cubans, and point rolls.

I was told be another pilot that had one the aircraft was very stable. You could slow it to a crawl on landing and it does not tip stall but instead pancakes if it gets too slow. What is your experience?

Yes I fly loops rolls Cubans and slow rolls. All are great. I did not notice any tip stalling. You can get the nose up for landing and it just settles nicely

How about 4 point and 8 point rolls, can they be quick?
Is there enough rudder to do knife edge?
AEHaas

PS: What are the tire diameters?

Thanks so much !

I have gone through a few sets of tires but that's a good thing. If all we have to buy is rubber we are doing great!!!!!
