Are you willing to share the plans? I have the ability to scan them in full size. I'll scan them in and return them to you with a PDF or TIFF electronic copy and even print you a clean set or two so you can cut them up. Plus I can share it with the group.

Maybe you guys know this. The lex on a BVM Viper come to a sharp leading edge. Did some guys change those to a rounded edge, like the wing LE for a bit better effectiveness?

Fuel will be your next challenge, we had best success with a 10% nitro -11-11 blend.. 11% synthetic - 11% castor oil blend. dont try to fly it till you get the motor to idle solidly for a full minute or so, and you are able to drop the throttle to full without any hesitation. if you have it running that solidly, on the top end you always want a smoke oil trail. 9/10's is good enough on the top end.

OMG so much this.

I got into jets just as the ducted fans were leaving the scene. My first jet was a BVM F-86 with a BVM (nelson) 91.

It was the first (and last) jet I ever bought with a credit card! LOL! But I wanted it soooooooo bad.

It was a FANTASTIC flying DF. NEVER one dead stick. Just unbelievable.

You preach the truth Roger!

As one of my buddies told me when I first got into the hobby, once you fly one, you will always want one.

Rick, of course you fit in!!!

We have all learned to really appreciate incredible engineering and fantastic flying airplanes with matching reliability.

I have also had just about every airplane out there and for the last 5 years, I've only bought BVM jets. Just 3 weeks ago, I received my first skymaster jet in 5 years.

Once you build/fly/maintain BV's stuff, you just miss it when you don't have it.

Good luck and thank you for sharing this with us!

Rick,

Sure. I'll send a PM to get your mailing address. The plans are about 36" x 96" two sheets with one smaller sheet.

I fairly recently acquired a NIB BVM Aggressor 2 complete fuselage set, however the wings, tail, plans, and manual were lost or tossed long ago by the previous owner....so, I am in search of a complete set of plans and the instruction manual for this plane so I can get started on re-constructing the missing parts!! It does need to be the Aggressor 2, as the Aggressor 1 was a built up wing (not foam core as the 2 was) with no planset and the Aggressor 3 I believe was quite a bit different airframe.
Thanks!

Thumbs up DF is not dead!

Thought I would chime in on this!
Just picked up a KBV 82 and Viofan. Going in the Viper you see standing beside the Aggressor I am refurbishing. And even though it's turbine, there's a Starfire as well. I LOVE these old school jets!
Two Byro Blaster Enforcers hanging from the ceiling too

I need to replace all the radio systems before I fly it again. everything's original from 1990. it flew ok last time, but theres better servos etc now. the OS 91s are original too, 70+ flights, never an engine out except throttle ball link popped off. replaced those with Sullivan spring loaded. replace the bearings every 20 flights or so. oil them good after each flying session. 5 percent nitro, 23 percent oil syn/castor

Does anyone know anything about the test conducted by Ralph Ploenes in which he compared the Ramtec and Dynamax ducted fan unit?
Or maybe the magazine where those date/results were published?
Thank you!

So, that pipe for my KBV .82 I have in the above, is not really going to fit in the exhaust tube in the Viper without some mods. By chance does anyone have a normal pipe for the KBV .82 that exits straight out the end instead of the two small exhaust pipes out the side like the one I have?
Thanks!

i remember Ralph doing the test, but not the results, on my own experience i can say, these where pretty similar systems, with Ramtec giving just a bit more push and on lower rpm

I want to build a F-15 jet plane powered by two glow ducted fans.
I would like to know how thrust tube must be made.

Default Jmp f-4

Gino,
I am currently building a JMP F-4 Phantom (Tom Cook) with twin Dynamax and OS .91VRDFs. I'm afraid you will have to mold your own tailpipes. Most DF kits came with the thrust tubes, and none of those manufacturers still make the parts. Maybe BVM would make them but you would have to run their fans. The thrust tube would be easy to roll out of 1/64th ply or fiberglass. You can layup some fiberglass cloth on a sheet of waxed glass and then roll it into a tube. You would need to mold a cover for the engine and that would be the hardest part to make. There is a guy on here that molds inlets for EDFs, Airsally I think. You might try to contact him to see if he might mold you some tailpipes with removable engine covers.

Good luck with the project.

If i remember right, 14" sq inches was the intake area threshold of where a ramtec would benefit over a dynamax as far as fan choice. someone can correct me on that but the more we bat this around that number sticks out

The thrust tubes on the Byrons are paper thin lexan sheets rolled into tubes.
