hey that's a pic of my Byron t33 in Tuskegee Airmen scheme. Still own her. I come across more BVM kits than I thought possible. I think a lot of it is because I am one of our local auctioneers so the guys know me. Go to the local swap meets and get to know these guys and they will find the kits for you.

in the last few months I have come across a BVM F86, a yellow F4, F20, and a F100 just to name a few. I try to store them away.....the F100 and F4 will be setup on electric. The F20 I am not sure. I love the Byron kits. I have their f20 and T33 jets on turbine power

Jamie,
That put an ear to ear grin on my face this morning. Thank you!
1980?
$196.00?
Wow,

RP

PS it was originally powered with a .61 and 5 1/2 # of thrust. The 91's are 13# of thrust. It ought to fly well no matter what engine...

I used to fly one with a Fox Rear exhaust 60. in 1976. Always got hot and quit, did a lot of dead stick landings. Duke Fox told me hell. that ain't no Ducted fan engine....LOL

Anyone have info on a late 80's F-15 twin ducted fan kit from I believe was Model Merchant designed by Duane Johnson? I have one still in box, but removed the plans many years ago and can't be located. The fuselage is fiberglass with an upper and lower half. Been searching the web for any info.

Thanks,
Don

Jamie,
Wow - Thank you for sharing. Interesting how he says the Byro jet is unmatchable for power in larger models and the Dynamax is best in the smaller lighter models. I wonder what the difference was there.
Also the Harrier was very interesting. Very cool what they were trying to do with what they had for such a short period of time back then. What was it, 1985 to 1995? Span of only 10 years?

There was a July 1980 issue of RC Modeler Magazine that had an article on Duane's F-15 on Ebay and bought the issue. Hope it was of the fiberglass model.

Wow, lots of memories here! I attended most of the SWFF events including #1, visited Abingdon to cover the event for Model Airplane News, and been in and around ICDF since it was born! Here's a shot (from my archives) of my Byron A-4 Skyhawk for which I did a product review for M.A.N. Upgraded from an O.S.77VFDF to the .91 when it became available! Still at it after all these years..........

Okay,
Put this issue to rest. I have been waiting on Ebay for a while and this one just seemed like a good deal. Motor, Header and fan unit.

Okay Guys,
I purchased an OS .91VDF. While it appears to have been mounted once before, it has not been run. That's important because I know the break in period is very important and I want control over that. I also received the pipe, header and Byro jet. I already have the F-16 NIB and I think all I need now is the retract gear and the starting wand. It's not clear how the starting wand works yet, but I am sure we will figure it out. I have two projects I need to close out on my bench this fall and hopefully I can get to this build quickly this winter. I suppose I'll start a dedicated build thread here if you are all interested and It appears we may be. Much thanks and hope to get to this project in a month or so.
Regards,
Rick

PS What seemed odd to me is that the Byro fan mounts the fan on the motor cantilevered away fro the motor, without the carburetor in front I would have thought they would have tried to choke back on the distance the fan. Not looking to re engineer anything here, but it just seems odd...

As soon as you see the fan / engine assembly put together and how it attaches into the aircraft, you will understand. I've had a Byron BD-5J on my bench for a few years now that I need to finish someday.

Is this the correct Extension? I thought it used the same one on the starter currently....

This is the important end of the Byron Wand. the other end you personalize to your specific starter.

Ok, I see now. They have you Loctite the prop nut so it will not spin off and you drive the prop nut with a socket and a one way bearing. I'll probably just make my own when the time comes, unless I find it for the right price first. Still plenty of time. The next thing will be the retracts, but I think spring air still makes them?

I do not think Spring Air is in business. The guy that owned and operated Spring Air passed away. I heard his son may try to start it back up, but I have made several attempts to contact them for parts with no success.
