No mike, and capt took the same cheap shot at arf's produced in asia. My blackhorse decathlon is made for an OS46, mine has a saito fa82 and is well over powered to the point that you can hover and rotate at will low over the strip, then climb away vertical thanks to full span ailerons which always kind of pees off the large scale aerobatic pilots. You can also slam the sticks into the corners at full throttle and it don't break even though i have over a hundred hours on this one. Covering hasn't faded, i could go on, in fact i will
Asian factories now build millions of motorcycles for the major japanese and european eg BMW brands to the identical spec laid down.

Just remember bruce, your going on a big trip and may catch up with gary at some point over a bbq and some beers. Have you traded that no good for rabbit shootin 9mil in on a good old 45 yet? hate to get caught with your pants down at the ok corral ya dig it?
ps gary things must be awful over your way, is that a yellow morris minor 1000 i see driving up the road and could you hear the metal mice feeding?

Maybe if the guys that buy them and assemble them would expect the fact that they didn’t actually build the plane it would be a little more excepted in certain circles. Because there are still a hand full of modelers out there that still appreciate a well-built from plans or kit airplane. After all they can in joy the great sound of a Saito. And don’t get me wrong I too have a couple ARF’s because to build certain airplanes is a challenge even for the experienced builder and they are usually built in covered per the original airplane so why not buy one already built.
I just hope that the kids and adults that learn to fly these days with a foam or ARF will some day buy a kit or a set of plans and find out what the real joy of building and fly your own plane is really all about.

Oh and I forgot to mention that I have flown some cheap ARF’s. One was a extra and the other was a edge and in both cases the firewall gave out. I don’t think they put any epoxy in that area. Also there were two other planes at the Field that looked just like mine and had the same problem so are they really building them better?

You can pop the prop hub from your foamie with it too. Those foamie motors often need a color change.
Buy em and fly em. Planes or tools, over the counter is the best.

By pulling the hub off of the tapered collet rather than dragging the hub and collet together, the pulling force required is less than 1/2
Then again, if you got a bigger hammer, might as well use it.

rather then digging out the BFH. I just Use a little heat. No need to get shade tree on these little works of art.

Yep, those sticks fly well. The Jensen kitted , Kraft Ugly Stick was my first plane with ailerons.
Loved it but never built another one. Next plane was an Andrews Aeromaster. Still have a new, original Aeromaster kit. Built two from the plans in the kit, the wood is shot.

My first Stik was a Midwest Sweet Stik with a OS/Graupner Wankel on it. The Stiks are the way to go if you want to show the engine off. Mine was True Red with white/black checkerboard stripes on the wing. I know a laser cutter who cuts the short kit for the second generation Sweet Stik very reasonable. He'll provide it as a tail dragger or as the original with a nose gear.

That bottom mount horizontal stab on the original made tail draggers an interesting proposition.

New guy here! I currently have Saito 170R3 and 200R3. Past engines are 65, 65gk, 50, 80gk, 120.
Im living in Switzerland and have a 200R3 that I made a new exhaust for and thought I would share. The ring and pipe are steel, the silencer is a KS 73/20 KS-5. Its really quiet and sounds extrelmly scale in the air.
Prop is a Mejzlik 18x6, current fuel is Graupner SX10.
Some numbers: on Optifuel 20% nitro it idles at 1000 and spins the 18x6 to 8700 on the ground
on the current fuel (Graupner SX10, 10% nitro, 12% oil) it idles at 1200 and revs to 8500
I prefer flying with the SX10 as there is less of a smoke trail and the engine runs much longer on a tank of fuel. The engine has about 20 liters of fuel through it now and runs like a champ. I broke it in on 20/20 and an APC 16x8 fand used the 20/20 for the first 10 liters.

Dave, what part of Switzerland? (If I may ask) My wife and I will be visiting at the Villa Honegg next year.
I wonder if you know what type of oil Graupner uses in their fuel?

the Graupner Sx10 uses Fuchs Aerosynth oil. It's quite good. I have the same amount of oil in the crankcase as with an 18% oil, but less that is expelled in the exhaust. And having more overall methanol means I can run lower nitro. Not wanting to start a big fuel thing here, but I will call out that the low oil and low nitro content leaves much less room for error. And it should not be used for breakin. There are maybe 3 clicks on the H needle between a bit rich and too lean. But tuned correctly it runs very, very well.
