Well now, only draw back is finding the right state and location. Sure NOT going to do it in Hellinois! Not as long as Tax happy *****ner and Madigan have control.

They aren't the only ones.... I am in that position where I do, but I don't. House is over half paid for, less than 14 years left on the mortgage, right about when I am set to retire, at which point I would sell, take what I get from it and get a Motorhome and hit the road. I still have two horses too. So if I do decide to sell, then I have to first fix the dump up, it makes the house from Moneypit look good, then find another place that has a barn with stalls and pasture. Or wait until the last horse dies of old age, then sell and move.
Move to where though. If within the next couple years, have to move to Wisconsin and close to the border where we are now so my wife can continue working where she is now. She finally got her dream job. So it would be halfway between where I work and she works. We still have kids in school too, which makes it hard all around. I hate the school system in IL, but it isn't much different in WI either. Screwed no matter where we go. Worse yet, no flying fields around anywhere in that area.

I'm thinking 5th wheel more than a MH. This way I park it, and have the truck to drive around in. Can lease spaces at various parks during the year, and winter in Arizona. No property taxes or maintenance to consider.

This was last Monday as we were heading home from Kentucky. Got it in 2016. Nice trailer, but need something just a bit bigger inside, so will e selling and getting one similar to this but with a slider for more room. What I plan to retire with will be a toyhauler type where the "garage" will be my hanger/workshop instead.

Gosh Donny, how are lives parallel. I retired June, 1990. I’ve been retired now more than I have been employed. Love every minute of retirement. All I can say is make a plan for retirement. I made a plan and it has worked out good for me.

Many more years of enjoyment to you too. I didn’t have any guidance regarding retirement. Other than what was offered by my employer. However, a bit late in my working years the IRS did a TCMP audit of my tax return. Also known as the audit from hell. While preparing for the audit I, also, read the tax code on retirement plans. That got me started. The tax audit lasted quite a few months, as I recall. In the end, the IRS owed me $800.00. I call that a successful audit.

The tax people did not audit me (thank GOD) and I have never had a problem with taxes. Now all my income is non taxable. You had a hairy experience with a wonderful outcome!
but only because you didn't submit phoney returns. my dad and I spent many hours just talking, sometimes through the night, and MOM would get up and make us breakfast I don't know how he managed, I was one of six, we did have similar interest and he kept my brain in gear on most all of them, even introduced me to architectural drafting by giving me a portable drafting board with triangles and "t" square. but the main thing he sat with me near the runways at LA Guardia airport and got me hooked on airplanes. we were so close to the runway I could smell the burning rubber from the tires of landing aircraft, the Connie's really lit me up. (can't do that now) We were on the poor side of life but I didn't know it until my teens (another story)............................................ I've gone on a remember binge here! Best I can say is I am and have been blessed. and it is good to know others have been blessed also.

My Feedback: (6)
My wife was the daughter of an American Airlines mechanic stationed at JFK. When she was young her and her boyfriend would park over at the TWA mushroom and watch the take offs with an aircraft radio receiver. She went to Oklahoma State University because she could get her pilot's license while in college. She dropped out after getting her license. My father in-law started on DC-3s, was one of two AA mechanics certified on the 707 when it came out, and retired when the 777 entered the fleet. He was also a lot of fun. We were as thick as thieves.

I was looking through Craigslist (Texas) and saw a Bede 5 kit for sale. The ad said complete but I did not see any landing gear, canopy or instruments. The owner passed away and it is being sold by a friend - $2900 .................................................. .........JOE FISHER this is more in your realm of reality what do you think? I am tempted to buy it, although it would require a lot of scrounging to complete.
I still have a bunch of pieces from a BEDE 7 kit I was building when Bede went belly up. losing the money was easier than taking the heat from MaMa!
Let me hear from all with opinions on this!

Awwwwwww come on guys your not helping! I called the owner and it looks to be a good buy if it isn't too corroded. You know it is from just sitting.

If I had the money to spare, and a place to work on it, I would do it, if anything than just to say I have one. I even know where I could fly it, though I think I would need an AMA exemption for it.

Donny, you told us once that you went to buy an aircraft, a Piper Cub if I remember correctly, but that you were too big to get into it! We all know that you're a big lad but can you fit into a Bede?

Yes that's right. As much as I tried I could not twist myself enough to get in, then I realized what it would be like to get out, so I forgot about it. getting into a Cessna 150 isn't pleasant to me either. The BD-5 is a totally different configuration and I saw what appeared to be someone over six foot tall and big get in and fly it. I am too old to fly a plane but I some how have a desired to build the darn thing. I was building a BD-7 at one time.......it was easy! I still have many of the parts.
